After starting from home in sunshine three of us, Kevin, Stan & Paul, gathered in light rain at Tissington Car Park and set off towards Dovedale. The rain didn't last long and we made good time to the edge of Dovedale. The mist was beginning to lift by then and were rewarded with atmospheric views towards Thorpe Cloud and into the dale.
We followed the edge northwards before dropping down to the river, on some very slippery paths, at Dove Holes. An easy section followed to the bridge at Milldale where we had a short break before climbing steeply up to follow the edge of Milldale for half a mile or so before we could head back towards Tissington.
At the top of the thiird and last steep climb we stopped in the shelter of a stone wall for lunch before heading quickly on with the clouds lowering menacingly behind us. The rain, which had been forecast to be heavy and prolonged, inevitably caught us, but thankfully only lasted for about ten minutes. By this time we were close to dropping back down to Tissington where we finished with a very enjoyable ice cream. Paul.
