A really lovely day for walking, extremely good company too, which made our journey together even more enjoyable. We even picked up a couple from Wigan, for a way and guided them to find their way to a place that they had missed, Black Rock, no problem as we had been there earlier in our walk. I will not describe the walk in this epistle, as it can be found in this section ‘Walks Diary’, scrolling back to Friday 13 February. We were walking it in reverse today, even the weather was opposite to todays, then it was wet and soggy!
Before we set off from the car park, I gave the usual safety talk, giving vent to any risks and dangers we might encounter, after which we were told, that one of our regular walkers, Ivor, had been taken poorly and is now in hospital, we will remember him at this time.
As was our intention, we gained the plateau atop Black Rock and stood for a while taking in some of the magnificent views below, pictures attached. We then made our way to the trig point on Bole Hill, again pausing for a picture or two, from here, it used to be possible to have good views over Wirksworth, but alas, tall trees and foliage, now occupy that side of the hill. Woodland walking now followed, my favourite kind of walk, the sheer delight of walking amongst trees, all mostly grown at random at the behest of nature, how privileged are we to have all this, on our doorstep, so to speak. Later we climbed the last third of Sheep Pastures incline, reaching the top, a little puffed, but what glorious views from up there, again over Cromford and beyond. The last mile, a relaxing walk along the High Peak Trail, until reaching the turn off for the Quarry Café. Nearly all of us had to go there, to pay for our car parking, the café being closed when we set off. A good handful of us stopped on for a cuppa, sitting on the patio with a view of the Stone Centre grounds. Thank you to all who made this walk so pleasant and so worry free for the leader.
