Despite the overcast skies, the weather was pleasantly mild as 14 of us gathered at Codnor Market Place to begin our walk.

After safely crossing the busy road between Codnor and Somercotes, we followed the well-worn track up to Castle Hill, making a slight detour to take a look at the castle and Castle Farm. Along the way, we were greeted by alpacas, goats and a lone sheep, who seemed happy enough to say hello as we admired them over the fence.

Continuing between Foxhole Plantation and Castle Plantation, we crossed the bridge over the railway line before joining the towpath of the Cromford Canal. We followed it to Codnor Reservoir, where we took advantage of the many benches for a peaceful coffee break while enjoying the tranquil surroundings.

Refreshed, we reluctantly left the reservoir and made our way up Monument Hill, passing the Jessop Monument on our left. A short stretch along Long Lane brought us to a footpath through the woods, which led us back to our starting point at Codnor Market Place.

Although shorter than our usual Wednesday walk, it was an enjoyable outing in pleasant conditions. Many thanks to everyone who made the effort to join us. Lyn
