A lovely get-together, both on the walk and later at the splendid meal at the Bulls Head, Lane End, Belper. Not all those on the walk stayed for a meal and not all those at the meal, were on the walk, so we had a good mixture of members from around the district. This is normally called The Chairman’s Mid-summer walk, but he was on holiday, so not only did Lyn, our social secretary, organise the menu and meal bookings, but also led the walk. Well done, Lyn.

After we had had our welcome and safety talk from Lyn, we set off across the road to take the path to Wyver Farm, passing this and on to walk Wyver Lane into Belper. We crossed the Ashbourne Road at Bridgefoot, noting that the river levels at the mill had been lowered, for the yearly maintenance work, so no water coming over the weir, the river diverted through the sluices on either side. We didn’t cross the bridge over the River Derwent, but walked beside it, until reaching the track ahead. We turned right along it, to its junction with Farnah Lane, stopping there for our morning break and a group photo. We followed the lane to the junction with Ashbourne Road, walking beside it and then to cross over into Longwalls Lane. We ascended this bridleway, steep in places, all the way to Wilderbrook Lane, then to take the small narrow path on the right back down to the Bulls Head, saying goodbye to some and greeting others. Great day, thanks to all.
