We started from the car park in hopes that the light drizzle would remain that way however within the first ten minutes on the High peak trail we knew it was a forlorn hope. Taking the access route up to Minninglow we spent a few minutes exploring the site and on leaving that elevated point we could see the oncoming weather. Needless to say there were no 360 views today.
We then needed to cross a couple of wet stiles and a field of cows and calves, our 2 dogs left us at this point as there was no alternative route. The cows were unperturbed by our passing and we were more concerned about slipping on the now drenched limestone.
We visited the old pumping house, opening the very stiff door to provide shelter from the wind blown rain for our break. The information plaques for Roystone area’s historic sites being of interest.
Then onwards up to Roystone cottages and Minninglow lane. As we reached the junction with Parwich lane a group decision was taken to cut the walk short, we could again see swathes of rain and cloud on the horizon of the planned route. Safely back in the car park we removed our wet gear and set off for home. Thanks to all for the compliments about the walk, we’ll try to do it again in full at a later date.
