7 of us set off from the lay by on Sheldon Moor, glad of a slightly chilly breeze. We headed towards Monyash, along narrow tracks and through fields surrounded on all sides by wild flowers and wonderful views. Soon after Monyash we had our morning break, undisturbed until a farmer came along in his little pickup. He was amused that we should be sitting there but stayed quite a while for a chat. He was meant to be feeding his sheep and cattle. From there we walked along the Limestone Way until we reached Flagg. The following route was very straightforward until we encountered cattle. They had been quietly minding their own business until we appeared then seemed to find too much energy for a warm day. As luck would have it they realised we weren’t very interesting and soon gave up. Soon afterwards we stopped by a wall at a field edge to have a lazy lunch in the sun. After lunch and by a zig zag route, encountering a cattle trough where the footpath should have been, we made our way to the outskirts of Taddington. We were still surrounded by wildflower meadows and lovely views. We skirted around Taddington with views towards Litton, Cressbrook, Monsal Dale and Fin Cop. We gradually changed direction walking the last two lanes back to our cars at 2.45. The weather had been kind, there were no significant hills and it was a delightful time of year to be out in the countryside. Frankie.
