14 of us, and Lenny, met at Warslow for what turned out to be an eventful day. The weather was fine but with a chill early on. We set off in an easterly direction towards the visitors’ centre at Hulme End where we had an early morning break. Great views, particularly of Ecton Hill, in this section. From Hulme End we made our way to Haysgate Farm before heading towards the River Manifold. We turned north before reaching the river and made our way in the direction of Brund Mill over fields and a minor road. I had discovered that part of my planned route was not passable but had not had time to check that out. I changed the route and we met our first obstacle as soon as we were away from my original route. A finger post was no longer pointing in the right direction and a stile was no longer functioning. After a bit of toing and froing we found the route but were faced with water logged fields and a series of streams that made navigation somewhat challenging. However, we all survived and finally we were able to pick up my original route near Spout Farm. From here it was an easy walk up to the Revidge trig point at 401m then a path down to Revidge Wood where we had a rather late lunch. The route back was over moorland and fields and an enclosed path heading south before we turned to a more easterly direction, one final boggy bit and we were back in Warslow. The weather had stayed fine all day and we had enjoyed 360* views of all the surrounding hills including Shining Tor, Axe Edge, Chrome, High Wheeldon, Sheen, Wolfescote and Ecton (and many others in between).
