Fortune favours the brave!

Most regular Wednesday Walkers must have been fazed by the dire weather forecast! Only six brave souls turned up at Monsal Head, fortunately including our intrepid leader, the one and only Gerry White! We set off in gentle drizzle for an exciting decent into Monsal Dale. The Limestone safely negotiated, we made our way past the roadworks closing the road until we took a right turn to ascend  the road to make our way up onto the moor to the trig point at Wardlow Hay Cop, then across to Cressbrook Dale before descending  to Wardlow. A steep climb up to Longston Moor, by which time the drizzle had stopped and there was even some yellow light (Sun?). A decent to Little Longstone, by which time there were patches of sun to light up the landscape. An easy walk back to the cars. Many thanks to Gerry for an unusual take on a walk from Monsal Head. 6.5 miles with 1,387feet of accent, so quite a strenuous day, but the weather was relatively kind! Can I commend the weather radar on the BBC Weather Page. Informed interpretation can lead to taking a calculated risk and travelling hopefully. It was certainly worth it today. I have definitely walked with Amber Valley Ramblers in far worse conditions! John.
