Walk Diary Wednesday 12 April 2017
Bonsall Village Leader: Gerry White
A Walk from Bonsall Car Park.
Number on walk 24 and 2 dogs.
Weather: Overcast and very varied temperatures from cool to warmish. Rain at the end of the walk but not very heavy.
This was a walk of around 7 miles but lots of climbing up and down. In all 1800 feet of altitude gain. Route, down the road to the Via Gellia. Up to the outskirts of Cromford and then turning up beside the Quarries to Middleton by Wirksworth, for coffee in a keen wind. Then down, passing the house where D.H. Lawrence lived for a short while. Then, continuing down the steep path in the woods to the reach the Via Gellia again. The woods were carpeted in lovely spring flowers also, because of the recent dry weather the path wasn't very slippery. Up and up again to a welcome lunch in a lovely spring field, but it did start raining on us, however, not torrential and it soon stopped. One of Gerry's famous loops led us back up to a welcome brew at the fountain cafe at Bonsall. Good walk, good company and lovely spring vegetation of all sorts. Jane H.
