For your own safety:
We hope that you will take notice of the following recommendations about footwear and clothing while walking in the countryside. The most essential being a good pair of waterproof walking boots, especially when walking in the White Peak areas where limestone rock can become very slippery when wet.
The rest really is common sense, and it's up to each individual to decide how much protection they will need. Some indications of these are:
- Warm clothing for winter, including anorak, gloves and hat.
- Waterproof over-clothing, if the above is not already waterproofed.
- A walking pole or stick to help keep your balance when on slopes or hillsides.
- A rucksack or similar that will leave both hands free and can be used to carry food, drink, spare clothing, etc.
- In summer, cotton shirts/blouses are coolest, not forgetting sunglasses, sunhat, suntan cream to suit your skin. New wickaway fabrics are also good.
Other things to remember, always carry some means of identification, contact number in case of accident, mobile phones are useful but signal quality varies in more remote spots.
If you do have any health issues that could occur during your time out with us, please advise the leader, in confidence, before the start of the walk.
The leader’s decision is final in matters of suitability of a person for a particular walk, for their own safety and for the safety of the group as a whole.
